TOURNAMENT RULES

 

 

  1. GENERAL 
    1.  Rained out games are to be made up as soon as possible during the regular schedule, but before    any playoff games begin. Rained out and cancelled games must be reported to the league coordinator.
      1. Game called due to weather and has not finished 5 innings (4 ½ if home Team is leading) will be made up at earliest time possible. Makeup game will start over from the beginning.

      2. Game called due to darkness or time restraints will revert to last completed inning and score will stand regardless of inning.

      3. Last day for scheduling game will be Saturday August 2.

    2. Prior to the start of every game, a line up must be submitted to the opposing manager.

    3. All games must begin at their appointed starting time.

      1. If a manager is unable to field a team of 8 or more players within fifteen minutes after the starting time, the game will be called by forfeit.

      2. If a team has at least 8 players at the appointed time, the game MUST begin at that time.
      3. Late starting games WILL NOT be granted additional playing time. No inning may begin at a time which is less than 10 minutes prior to the time at which the following, regular game is scheduled to start.
      4. The time shall be determined by the umpire. It remains the umpire’s responsibility to determine if any inning or part of an inning will begin.
      5. Any inning which can begin 10 minutes prior to the time at which the following game is scheduled to start must be started and completed.
      6. No inning may begin after the game has gone over two hours.
      7. In the event that an inning is legally begun and CAN NOT be completed the score WILL revert to that existing at the end of the last complete inning.
        • Extra innings are allowed as long as time permits.
        1. Weeknight games starting time 6:00 p.m., (Coaches Confirm Field - directions - date/time 48 hours before scheduled game).
        2. The home team will have the use of the field for up to 15 minutes before the game is to begin. The visiting team will then have 15 minutes of use before the game begins.
        3. All non- wood bats must have the USA Bat Marking or marked BBCOR.50. Bat Barrel-2-5/8
        4. Games will be played according to Babe Ruth Rules
    4. The home team will provide 2 baseballs and scheduling and paying of umpire.
    5. Helmets must be worn by any player coaching a base.
    6. After 5 complete innings of play, if there is more than a 12-run spread in the score, the game will be called a rout and the team that is leading will be declared the winner
    7. The winning team is to report their score within 48 hours by email (dwgallagher58@comcast.net).

      • IF YOU DO NOT REPORT SCORE, YOU DO NOT GET CREDIT TOWARD STANDINGS.
    8. ​​​​Scores and Standings will be listed on the League website.  www.Southriverbaseball.com
    9. Scorekeepers from each Team will write the name of each pitcher and innings pitched at the bottom of the scorebook. Opposing scorekeepers will initial each other’s scorebooks after each game. All scorebooks will be made available to opposing managers if pitching eligibility is questioned.
    10. Only the manager, 2 coaches and a scorekeeper are allowed on the playing field. Only the manager may address the umpire.
    11. 2 points are awarded for a win; 1 point for a tie. Games must be made up by 8/2/2025 scores not reported by Sunday 8/03/2025 will not count towards standings for Playoff.
    12. Playoff Schedules will go out Sunday Morning 8/03/2025. Each Team makes the Playoff.
    13. Standings on the website do not take into consideration tie games so is not completely accurate.
      • Example: A team with 5 wins and a tie would be placed ahead of a team with 5 wins only.
  2. ​​​​​​​PITCHING RULES
    1. ​​​​​​​Pitcher may pitch 7 innings over 2 games with a total of 10 innings per calendar week.
    2.  No rest period required
    3. Pitching week begins on Monday and runs through Sunday.
    4. No limit on number of pitchers used in game
  3. UMPIRES
    1. ​​​​​​​The home team is responsible for scheduling umpires- 2 per game if possible.
    2. Once a game has started the umpire is official any concerns of umpire must be discussed before game.
    3. The umpire’s decision shall be final. THERE ARE NO PROTESTS
    4. Please have a copy of the South River rules with you. If you feel there is a rules violation you have ten minutes to show the rule to umpire. If you do not the play stands, for rules not covered in South River Rules, You would refer to Babe Ruth rulebook.
    5. The starting line-up is to be submitted to the umpires and opposing manager prior to the start of the game. The umpire and opposing manager must be notified of any changes made during the game.
    6. A Player arriving after the game begins is to be placed at bottom of order.
    7. ABSOLUTELY NO profanity, arguing with umpires to the point that it is disruptive, abusive, or excessive or abuse or equipment by players, managers, coaches, or fans will be tolerated.
      1. The first offense against this rule will result in a warning
      2. The umpire may, after one warning, eject any player, manager, coach, or fan who continues after warning to display disruptive or abusive behavior.
      3. Upon ejection any and all of the above will be required to leave the premises.
        1. If an ejected person fails to leave, the umpire may have the discretion to call a forfeit against the team with whom the offending person is affiliated.
        2. A subsequent offense will result in suspension for the remainder of the season.
        3. The umpire will exercise discretion in these matters.
  4. CONTINUOUS BATTING ORDER
    1. ​​​​​All players are placed in batting line-up for continuous batting order. Free substitution. (Except pitcher) All players must have 3 innings in field and at least one at bat.                         
  5. SLIDE RULE
    1. ​​​​​​​A runner may not intentionally initiate contact with fielder in order to obtain base or home plate.
    2. Incidental contact between runner and fielder is allowed, but any runner who hurdles, jumps or initiates contact with a fielder, which in the opinion of the umpire, is excessive, WILL be declared out.
    3. A runner approaching base or home plate must make a reasonable effort to avoid Contact with a fielder.

 

Teams are responsible for their own Insurance.
